Corvette Z06 To Be Auctioned Off For Charity
Recently I posted that the 2015 Mustang used in the movie Need For Speed will be auctioned for charity Well, Chevrolet is following suit with the first edition 2015 Corvette Z06.
Top Speed says that the Corvette will be featured at the Barrett Jackson auction from April 11, to April 13, 2014. The Z06 has been dubbed by Chevrolet as the “most track-capable Corvette ever, designed to deliver supercar levels of performance through unique powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic features.”
The Corvette is expected to bring in top dollar. A previous first edition 2014 Corvette Stingray was purchased by Rick Hendrick, a NASCAR race team owner, for a cool $1 million. With the high bidding in recent years for vehicles at the auction, $1 million may just be a little on the low side.
Karmanos Cancer Institute will be the charity that benefits from the sale. The Z06 will be offered on April 12, 2014 during the Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Florida. The proceeds will be used by the charity to renovate their infusion center for a more relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.
“Chevrolet’s donation of the first 2015 Corvette Z06 produced is yet another way that we are showing our continued support of the Karmanos Cancer Institute. The funds raised from the auction will help further the exceptional patient care that Karmanos is known for in our community and across the country,” said GM president Dan Ammann in a statement.
“When it comes to corporate citizenship and philanthropy, General Motors and its employees set the example. Their generosity goes a long way toward improving the lives of cancer patients and supporting cancer research. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to GM, the GM Foundation, Chevrolet and Barrett-Jackson for their ongoing commitment to help end this disease,” said Gerold Bepler, president and CEO of the Karmanos Cancer Institute, in a statement.
The 2015 Z06 made its public debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show with a more aggressive look, high performance engine, suspension, and brake system. Power comes from a LT4 6.2-L, supercharged V-8 engine that pushes out 625 hp and 635 lb-ft of torque. Connected the power plant is a seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match.
In the rear is an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) that will shift the torque produced for a better handle, traction and balance in the vehicle. Vehicle speed, steering and throttle position determines how the eLSD performs.
Exact details of performance has not been released as of yet, but estimates are close to a 3.4 second 0-60 and a top speed of around 200 mph. It won’t be no record breaking supercar, but impressive nonetheless. The chassis will be an improved all aluminum frame which is 60 percent stronger than the previous year’s model.
Upgrades from previous Z06s will include a widened stance to accommodate the wider Michelin tires. On the rear, the taillights were spaced three inches further apart for a better look. A front splitter was added for down force that extends from wheel well to wheel well. A lighter carbon-fiber hood with a large vent and a new rear spoiler were also added.
