Daily Round-Up For June 12, 2013

Hello, there! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s collection of all of the most important and most interesting news to surface from the wonderful world of independent and popular music. Are you ready? Let’s get to it.

Alternative rock band Sigur Ros has made their upcoming new record Kveikur available to stream online ahead of its release next week. If you like Sigur Ros, or if you would like to check out the stream, you can follow the link back to Consequence of Sound.

Over the past few years, Adult Swim has become one of the most unlikely but most influential tastemakers in the world of underground and indie music. The series of singles they release from time have made stars out of up-and-coming producers and artists, while at the same time creating a great collection of tunes. And this time around nothing is different. The edition for this year features Miguel, Killer Mike, and Madlib, alongside favorites from the indie world like Metz, Mac DeMarco, Captain Murphy, and Andy Stott. The singles will be released over the next few months. If you want to look at the whole list, hit the link and hop on over to The Line of Best Fit.

The comedy-rap group The Lonely Island put out a new record yesterday, and followed it up with a music video for the track Go Kindergarten. Much of the strength of The Lonely Island’s popularity has come from their hilarious music videos and insane celebrity guest spots. And it looks like the trend is continuing with this new installment! You can check out the video by following the link back to Stereogum.

We are at the halfway point of the year, so a lot of “Best of 2013 So Far” lists have begun cropping up around the blogosphere. Today NPR Music made two big contributions to the buzz with their “50 Best Songs” and “25 Best Albums” of 2013 so far. Check them out by following the link back to NPR Music.

And of course, yesterday was Tuesday, and that means New Releases! After all the dust has settled from last week, it seems that we are looking at new records from Action Bronson, Boards of Canada, CSS, Deafheaven, Gold Panda, Goo Goo Dolls, Jimmy Eat World, Joey Bada$$, Lust For Youth, Surfer Blood, and The Lonely Island. Not a bad spread! Be on the lookout for some reviews on these albums on redOrbit in the coming weeks, and check out the full list of new releases at Metacritic.

And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! Check out my other articles here.
