Daily Round-Up For June 30, 2013
Hello, wonderful readers! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one and only collection of some of the latest and greatest music news of the day. Let’s get to business!
Pop outfit Icona Pop will be proud to hear that their hit single I Love It, which has been named the unofficial “song of the Summer,” sold 100,000 copies this past week! That’s not quite as many sales as Daft Punk made with their million-selling Get Lucky, but 100,000 is still nothing to sneeze at. Check out the story at The Line of Best Fit.
Kanye West had previously scoffed at radio. He also has just released a record that looks to have no obvious singles. But Kanye West has selected a cut from Yeezus entitled Black Skinhead to be his new radio single! It will be quite intriguing to see how the single does on radio. The full album Yeezus sold very well, but radio is a different market. We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can check out the story at Stereogum.
We’re coming up on the release of Jay-Z’s much-hyped record Magna Carta Holy Grail. To help the grass-roots promotion of the album, Jay-Z has announced a show in New York’s Times Square and has also released lyrics from the upcoming LP. If you’d like to read those lyrics or find out more details about the show in New York, you can find both by following the link back to The Line of Best Fit.
And in some additional news about Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay-Z has also announced that the record will feature appearances from Pharrell, Beyonce, Nas, and Timbaland! Not a bad guest list. Check out the full story at Consequence of Sound.
If you like hard-hitting electronic jams with curdling bass lines and sharp drums, then you’ll love The Music Ninja’s latest addition of “The Trap Dojo” playlist! Every so often they release another edition of the collection of songs made up entirely of trap music. Hopefully you’ll enjoy! You can check it out back at The Music Ninja.
Pop-rock geniuses Smith Westerns released a new music video today for their track Soft Will. Their new album is being received very well across the music community and its chorus of opinions. Hopefully the music video is great too! You can check it out over at We All Want Someone To Shout For.
And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! You can check out my other articles here. Have questions, comments, suggestions, or love?
