Daily Round-Up For November 6, 2013

Hello pretty people! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one and only collection of all the latest and greatest music news of the day. Let’s get to work!

Broken Bells, the ever-popular collaboration between The Shins’s James Mercer and producer-extraordinaire Danger Mouse, has released a new track for us to enjoy. Holding On For Life, the falsetto-crooning and disco-rumbling new tune, will be included on the duo’s upcoming new album After The Disco, which has been confirmed due to release on January 14th. You can hear the song, along with a new interview with the band, back at NPR Music.

NPR has re-uploaded a vintage edition of their World Café series, flashing back to when the electric alternative pop band fun. stopped by to promote their record Some Nights. It feels like just yesterday when this band was taking the world by storm, and it’s fun to hear the band share their music and insights again. If you want to check it out for yourself, just head back to NPR Music.

The alternative rock group Frightened Rabbit shared a new video today for their track Holy. The video is extremely well done and tells an interesting and engaging story. And the song, with its thick and dynamic guitars and drums, is pretty great too. Check them both out for yourself back at Stereogum.

Pop group CHVRCHES also put out a new video today, for their tune Lies. The video here, with its intense artistic direction, is equal parts sparse and deeply complex. Its tone also matches perfectly with the dark, entrancing synth pop CHVRCHES puts out in Lies. You can try for yourself to understand the meaning behind this video and song back at The Line of Best Fit.

The larger-than-life Australian pop band Empire of the Sun stopped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno the other day, and from the looks of it they brought the house down. Lucky for us there is video of their performance, and you can find it back at Stereogum.

I’ll leave you today with a favorite of mine. The indie rock band The National has also made an appearance on the famous Later…with Jools Holland to play a few songs from their most recent LP Trouble Will Find Me. Back at Stereogum, you can find the video of their album favorite Sea of Love. Their setup, complete with expanded live band and gorgeous lighting, made for a beautifully emotive and powerful performance. The National never disappoint, but they positively killed this performance.

And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! You can check out my other articles here.
