Daily Round-Up For October 1, 2013
What’s up music fans? Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one and only destination for all the latest, greatest, and most awesome music news of the day! Let’s dive right in.
The Flaming Lips are apparently on course to release not one, but two new EPs! The first, an apparently Ender’s Game-inspired solo effort, will hit shelves November 26th. The second might even be more awesome of a prospect: the Flaming Lips and Tame Impala will feature on a split EP and trade covers of each other’s music. All the details are back at Consequence of Sound.
Speaking of covers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes contributed a new tune to the world as they covered I Saw Her Standing There by the Beatles. Their cover will be featured on an upcoming compilation album with covers by a bunch of different artists. If you want to hear their take on the song, you can check it out at Consequence of Sound.
Despite being sick, Justin Timberlake still managed to stop by Ellen DeGeneres’s daytime talk show to promote his new album and have some fun. If you are so inclined, you can find video of him performing, as well as playing along with Ellen’s antics, back at Consequence of Sound.
Ambient producer Oneohtrix Point Never has been making the rounds in promotion of his new record R Plus Seven, which is due out this week. In an extensive new interview with Consequence of Sound, he reportedly went the extra mile and explained the secret to recording electronic music. If you’re interested in what that secret is, you can check it out back at Consequence of Sound.
If you’re in the mood for some tunes to jumpstart your day, look no further than the Dancing Astronaut’s Good Morning Mix! This week’s mix comes in the form of a set by Kaskade at a Las Vegas show over the summer. You are sure to find some sweet tunes and heavy bass if you give it a listen. Check it out at The Dancing Astronaut.
And as it is Tuesday, there are new records on the shelves! In addition to releases by Justin Timberlake, Amos Lee, Dr. Dog, and Yuck, there are a couple albums being premiered as streams over the internet. Danny Brown’s intensely anticipated new record Old can be found at 2dopeboyz, and the new LP from Nicholas Jaar’s Darkside project, Psychic, can be found at Consequence of Sound. You can also find a list of every upcoming and new release over at Metacritic. Happy new music Tuesday!
