Daily Round-Up For September 29, 2013

Hello hello music fans! Welcome to the Daily Round-Up, redOrbit’s one stop shop for all of the latest, greatest, and most interesting music news of the day. Let’s dive right in!

You may remember Superchunk as that awesome band that have been making waves with their music since 1989. Or you may remember them simply as the band that named their new record I Hate Music. But no matter how recognize Superchunk, you might enjoy watching them play a song or two live. And you’re in luck, as they stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to promote their new tunes. The video can be found at Stereogum.

While Superchunk are tearing it up stateside, across the pond on the popular UK show Later…with Jools Holland, musicians like Janelle Monae and the Pixies are putting on just as awesome a show! If you happen to be interested, you can check out the video of their respective performances back at Consequence of Sound.

There are a couple of extremely interesting albums that released this week, one by popular rapper and R&B artist Drake, and the other by the Scottish indie band Chvrches. NPR Music has written up a couple of very nice features regarding these two artists, their respective histories, and an opinion on their new release in the context of their careers. Both pieces are in-depth and insightful, and if you have any interest in the subjects, they are definitely worth a read or a listen. The Chvrches article features an accompanying audio track. Check them out at NPR – the first link is to the Drake article, and the second is to Chvrches.

As a Two Door Cinema Club super fan, I get excited whenever they put out new material. Even if that material comes in the form of a nebulous mini-mix of remixes, it’s still new Two Door Cinema Club in my eyes. So if you’re interested in hearing four different producers take a spin on the band’s new single, then you can follow the link back to Oh So Fresh Music and check out the Changing of the Seasons remixes.

In response to the recent string of tragic and drug-related deaths that have been occurring at EDM shows, the University of Massachusetts has made the decision to ban all EDM shows on its campus “forever.” This has prompted producer Kaskade to venture onto Twitter, where he voiced a respectful but impassioned defense of EDM. You can read his comments in full back at The Dancing Astronaut.

And that is all the news we have for today folks! Hope you have a great day! You can check out my other articles here. Have questions, comments, suggestions, or love? Or do you have an opinion on any of the music featured in today’s Round-Up?
