Easy Weight Loss Tips (Part 2)

In Part 1 of this series, I looked at the first eight easy weight-loss tips given by Health.com:

  1. Video Games Help
  2. Stock Up on the Good Foods
  3. Sleep In
  4. Unsweetened Teas and Coffee
  5. Sit Down to Eat
  6. Save the Salad for Last
  7. Relax
  8. Drop the Diet Soda

Now, let’s look at the remaining seven tips that will help even the laziest of us lose some weight.

9) Water, Water, Water

Many find water boring, but it really is the best go-to drink of all. Water helps keep us hydrated, keeps our organs functioning, and provides just what our bodies need to function properly. Plus, Health.com shows that “research shows it can be an effective weight-loss aid. In one Virginia Tech study, overweight people who followed a low-calorie diet and drank two eight-ounce glasses of water before every meal lost an average of 15.5 pounds over three months. People who reduced their calorie intake but didn’t down the H20 dropped just 11 pounds.” We can even add a little bit of fruit to water for some flavor and some of the nutrients from the fruit.

10) Greek Yogurt or Cottage Cheese Breakfast

First of all, these are both tasty, easy breakfast options that anyone can grab in a pinch. Secondly, and more importantly, both provide high amounts of calcium and protein, both of which are critical to a healthy lifestyle. The protein can help keep people fuller for longer as well, which will cut down on snacking in between meals. And adding some fruit or grains to Greek yogurt or cottage cheese further helps ensure a healthy and balanced diet.

11) Raw Foods

Raw fruits and veggies are easy, no-cook snacks that really help to keep our bodies healthy and full of the nutrients we need. Plus, they help keep us hydrated. Fruits and veggies definitely help to keep us from eating other foods because they are filling and delicious. Raw fruits and veggies are easy to take with us to work or events and provide more than just fiber and hydration; they have vitamins and minerals that we all need. And they are oh-so-good!

12) Dips and Dressings No More

We all love a good dip or dressing, but they have more calories, so an easy way to lose weight is to cut out those dips and dressings, especially the creamy dips because they are higher in calories and fat. They do taste good, but they definitely contribute to our weight problems, so cutting them out will help us all to be healthier and lose the weight we want. And this is relatively easy to do.

13) Limit Frozen Yogurt

Yes, frozen yogurt is delicious, but it can easily add up in the calorie column. Sure, fro-yo is usually low to no fat, but it still has calories, so Health.com suggests limiting frozen yogurt consumption by setting a dollar limit at self-serve frozen yogurt joints. About three dollars should be enough. Visually, that would be about a fist-sized portion of frozen yogurt and a thumb-sized portion of toppings. Also, go for the fresh fruit toppings over the candy ones.

14) Alcohol or Dessert

When eating and drinking, we should really choose either alcohol or dessert because both are high in calories. Health.com states, “If you start dinner with a glass or two of wine and end it with dessert, you’ve bookended your meal with an extra 500 to 1,000 calories, Saltz says. To lose weight, you have got to cut calories. So unless you plan to order a plain salad with balsamic for your entree, she suggests cutting elsewhere to avoid a 2,000-calorie meal. “If alcohol is your choice—I usually pick wine over dessert—order a decaf coffee to finish your meal,” she says. “If you want to splurge on dessert, then keep your liquid calories zero during the meal.”

15) More Spice, Please

Spicy foods like salsa and curries have been shown to help trick the body into eating less. Plus, the capsaicin helps the digestive system and metabolism. In fact, in one small Danish study, those who added about one-fourth a teaspoon of chili pepper to their meals felt more satiated and full regardless of whether they consume 100 percent or their daily calories or 75 percent. This means that the chili pepper just might help to control the caloric intake.

Each of these 15 tips is pretty easy to incorporate in our daily lives even for the laziest of us out there. So, if weight loss is something you are interested in, but you don’t want to count calories and plan meals, then perhaps these will help. They are easy and tasty ways to lose weight.
