Gifts For The Creatives In Your Life

I get it, Black Friday is here and you are stuck in your bed stressing about what to get the digital creative person in your life for the holidays.

Take a deep breathe, you are about to handle this like a pro.

First off, let’s look at the really good buys that will definitely put a smile on that creative face for a price that will definitely put a smile on yours.

Don’t ever (and I mean ever) underestimate the power of a good book. The book can provide both direction and inspiration to someone in the digital creative arts. Just think of giving your photographer friend a book full of breathe taking photography or giving your graphic designing girlfriend an entire artbook of (you guessed it) graphic design works. Oh, what was that? Your cousin is an animator? Not a problem, Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks all release books full of enough production art to make your cousin apologize for that time he let you take the blame for breaking grandmother’s vase.  Now the prices on these bad boys can range from 10 bucks to 100 big ones, but the price you should be looking at should be about 40 bucks, give or take.

Now, if you are feeling a little more generous in the pocket, don’t worry, we can step it up a bit. The Wacom Intous tablet is an essential tool in most creative digital fields. From digital artists and graphic designers getting that extra push of accuracy for creating great work to photographers touching up a picture caught in the spur of the moment, the graphics tablet plays a very vital role to occupation of these lucky recipients and they will be forever in your debt for supplying them. So what’s the sticker tag say? Well these tablets range from about 200 to 400 bones, depending on the size but do keep in mind, bigger is better. Hmmm? So you mean to tell me that this person actually made the conscious decision to buy all the tools they needed for their career and not wait for The Holidays? Wait, don’t press the panic button yet, we still have another gift to discuss.

A compact system camera packs the power of a DSLR but has the portability of a point and shoot. For the photographers and video production people in your life, this may not overwhelm the power of their tool of the trade but can but a very fun alternative. You can actually provide them with this thing called leisure, so they wouldn’t have to bring their heavy, bulky equipment to get a recreational shot unrelated to work. These cameras should hit for around $400 to $700. The ones that you should be on the lookout for should include the Panasonic Lumix GF3, Nikon 1 J1,and the Sony NEX-5N.

That wasn’t generous enough for you huh? You’re just loaded and want to set the tone for the way you celebrate the Holidays with your friends, family or significant other. That’s not a problem, I don’t judge here. This is time where you break that glass in case of emergency and pull out an Apple product. I recommend a Macbook pro. This will surely please the recipient (because who the hell would not accept a free Macbook pro?). From DJ’s to designers, this will be universally accepted as a token of love and your heart will fill with joy as stand on their knees, holding the box like a newborn baby and look at you with quivering lips and the water works soon after. You can catch these gems for around 1700-2500 bucks.

Now look at that, you’ve gotten through Black Friday like a pro. You’ve scaled through the mosh pits of customers and those camping out to bring joy to the face of that special creative person in your life. Look yourself in the mirror, give yourself a high-five and sneak a piece of leftover pie into your room, you deserve it.
