I Have An iPhone Dinosaur
I have to admit something. I still have an iPhone 3S…and it might actually be a 3. I just can’t remember. See, I am one of those who uses a device until it just starts dying. And often I will use something until it is dead. D-E-A-D. This is for no other reason than I just do. I like technology. I like new gadgets and how they add to our lives (when they do so). I just will use something until it is no longer usable.
I am like this in all aspects of my life. I still have clothes from the 7th grade because they still fit and I still wear them, thus they are still usable. True, they are no longer cool or in style; however, I do not care. But I digress, back to my iPhone.
Over the years, I have watched as friends and family have upgraded to the 3S (if in fact mine is still a 3) 4, 4S, and 5. I played with their phones and enjoyed their new technology while still loving my own iPhone 3 or 3S. I loved my phone. I mean, it only has like 8 gigs (if that) of space for photos, apps, videos, music, movies, books, and all. But I made it work. I just rotated my music and saved my photos to my laptop regularly so that I could delete them from my phone. I put my books in the Kindle app cloud and minimized my apps to just those I use regularly. I worked around it. And I thought I would just continue to do so.
Until now, that is. In the past couple of months, my very old iPhone has just started, well, giving up on me. It has trouble opening up apps and performing to the level I need. And the battery life is quickly draining away. My first iPhone is dying.
So, I went to the AT&T store, my phone services carrier for my family plan. I was set to pick up the newest iPhone 5, had my money in hand, and just wanted to get it over with. I just wanted a phone that would, well, work. To my surprise, the customer service rep for AT&T told me that Apple had planned an event on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 (which as I write this is tomorrow, but as you read it is today). The rumors and suspicions are that Apple will release the next generation of iPhone. I went in during the last week of August, so I decided to just wait and see what September 10 would bring.
On the eve of that event, I am a tad bit excited. Like I said, I like technology just fine and appreciate how it can add to our lives, but I am not a tech snob. I mean, isn’t that obvious? I still have the iPhone 3. I am seriously behind. I am excited because after today I will likely know whether I will go get the iPhone 5 or wait for the release of the next generation.
The web is abounding with rumors about the new iPhone. redOrbit recently reported about the speculation explaining that it was rumored that Apple would be releasing the next traditional generation of the iPhone in the iPhone 5S, as well as a more affordable iPhone currently dubbed the 5C. The 5C is said to be made of plastic and available in different colors. We shall see.
Regardless, though, after the Apple event, I have a plan for my new phone. And that is pretty darn cool.
