More On Limp Penises: Average Penis Size Not As Big As You Think
July reports of average penis size in America might have you a little stumped.
A new study published in July’s issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine finds that the average American man’s penis is only 5.6 inches (14.2 centimeters) long when erect.
The study is comprised of 1661 American men’s self reported measurements, so it’s got to be accurate, right?
Daily News explains, “Although many men may wish their penis were larger and may expend significant effort toward penile enlargement, this does not necessarily mean that men over report their penile size to researchers.”
If men would lie to one another about their penis size, why wouldn’t they lie to the face of researchers. I’m willing to bet the average is even smaller than that.
Researchers from Indiana University asked men to measure their penis’s length and girth when erect, and then the men submitted their data (probably anonymously) online.
While it’s only a .4 inch difference, I was sure the national average had to be at least 6 inches.
With Erectile Dysfunction on the rise in America, it’s no big surprise that the average erect penis length is a little shorter than one may have thought. While ED does not reduce penis size physically, it does affect the ability to achieve erection, therefore smaller lengths would be recorded (if everyone’s telling the truth, that is).
Men are going to great lengths to achieve greater penis size, but these stats don’t seem to reflect it much. My previous blog details the sales of sexual enhancement and male enhancement drugs are on the rise.
The study reported, “Findings also showed that yes, penises come in all shapes and sizes: the smallest erect penis in the study was about 1.6 inches (4 cm) long, and the largest was 10.2 inches (26 cm) long. The average penile girth was about 4.8 inches (12.2 cm).”
That means that the average penis is nearly a cube! How could the average girth and length only be separated by a little over half an inch?
Despite your shock or confirmation after reading this (and quickly measuring yourself for comparison), the study revealed some other interesting news.
“Interestingly men in the study who became aroused through oral sex reported larger penis size on average than those who became erect through sexual fantasizing, the researchers reported.”
I’m not quite sure how to chalk that one up, but it’s thought provoking enough all by itself.
On TV, they always say, “it’s not the size of the boat; it’s the motion in the ocean,” and that may be true, but that doesn’t stop most men from wishing their penis was a little bigger. Maybe they’d lie and maybe they wouldn’t; who knows?
While we’re always encouraged to see discussion in the comments section, this is one where I’ll have to ask you not to comment below. At least, don’t weigh in on where you or your husband stands in relation to the stats.
Please. And thank you.
