Star Wars Inspired Food

In celebration of “May the Fourth be with You,” redOrbit is hosting a series of Star Wars-inspired blogs.

In my last article, I talked about how to combine May 4th and May 5th, celebrating Star Wars and Cinco de Mayo by making a Death Star piñata. In this one, I am going to give you some ideas of Mexican inspired Star Wars food that you can make. Some of you may be aware that there have been several Star Wars cookbooks published. No? Well, if you don’t believe be, just check out this link and see for yourself. I happen to own 1 of these. Well, it actually belongs to my 18-year-old son, but he lets me borrow it as long as I don’t get food on it!

Since we are combining two celebrations, I thought it would be fun to make some Star Wars inspired food.

How about making some Yoda quesadillas? All you need is some spinach or veggie tortillas (which are normally green in color) and whatever cheese and/or meat you want to fill it with. Use a few to make ears, which you can keep in place by placing between the layers, nose and mouth. A bit of sour cream and some chopped black olives or black beans for eyes and you have a Yodadilla! Even better, this recipe is diabetic friendly!

Or how about making some Yodamole? Simply take your guacamole and put it in the shape of Yoda. Surround it by scooper chips and you have Yodamole and Trooper Scoopers. I wish I could take credit for these two recipes, but I found them here. They were so cute and original that I had to share them with you, especially since they fit my theme so well!

Here is one I came up with all by myself! Death Star tortilla chips, which can be used with salsa, queso, and so many other things. Simply take some corn tortillas, use a round cookie cutter to cut out circles. Use a scalloped edge cookie cutter to remove what will basically look like a bite make. After you make enough chips, fry them in vegetable or canola oil, drain, salt and enjoy!

Make a 7-layer dip using refried beans, sour cream, shredded cheese, guacamole, chopped tomatoes, salsa and lettuce. Call it Swamp of Dagoba Dip and use the Death Star chips to eat it.

For dessert, I found a great recipe for Yoda’s Green Sherbet Sundaes. Kids and adults alike will love this and its super easy to make! All you need is lime sherbet, some green taffy and mini marshmallows. Well, and some creativity to put it together.

In the Star Wars universe, there is a drink called Membrosia that is gold colored. For this, I have two separate ideas. For the kids, pour ginger ale over some sliced fruit (like strawberries) and you have a quick, cool drink! But for the adults, try making margaritas on the rocks using gold tequila and call it Membrosia!

It’s all a matter of just having fun with it! I’m sure you can come up with even more ideas. So, go out and celebrate the beginning of an era by watching the Star Wars movies. Serve some Star Wars inspired Cinco de Mayo treats and make it a real party! If you have any ideas or comments, I would love to hear about them! And May the Fourth Be With You!
