Energy efficient windows have gone through something of a revolution over the past few years. Many new kinds of windows can reduce your energy use and save you money.
New and improved windows have become “draft-free” keeping the cold out in the winter and heat out in the summer. The best way to locate the most efficient windows on the market is by looking for the Energy Star label and/or visiting their website.
Replacing old windows with Energy Star windows can save a homeowner up to 30% in energy costs. That can amount to $1000 on average nationwide.
If you don’t have the resources to replace your windows look into “window film”. Here is a review listing on About.com about various window film companies.
In addition to replacing old windows with efficient ones, when you are building a new home, make sure to place your windows in such a way that you will maximize efficiency. The Green Register has found the Efficient Windows website is a good resource.
One last eco-friendly tip – check out the Alliance to Save Energy’s Energy Efficient Windows video below. This simple public service announcement and their website will help guide you in your quest to save energy and money.
