The Universe Project: A Gamer’s Dream Come True

In this world full of life-sim games that don’t really capture the essence of real life, there’s one beacon of light that shines through the darkness. The Universe Project has come to save us from our monotonous real lives by giving us a second real life.

The Universe Project is a highly ambitious undertaking being led by a small group of colleagues who want to make a game that truly simulates the human experience. The idea of the game is that at the launch, players will be put onto a prehistoric Earth with no skills or technology, just like the beginning of mankind. Over time, the players will learn to build and create technology, as well as make cultural and political advances. The developers describe their vision of this game as ‘truly unique’, creating a whole new genre: “The Virtual Parallel Universe.”

For the Universe Project, simulating a parallel universe means several things. The game will take place on a map the size of the actual Earth, meaning it gives players almost an infinite amount of space to explore, develop communities, and live their lives. In the introductory video below, they even mention that once people become advanced enough, we would even be able to travel through space, expanding through galaxies and beyond.

The game will simulate a real human life by starting everyone out with little to no knowledge of anything and, as you play, your character develops skills and learns how to build and create useful items; such as construction tools and weapons. The developers say invention will work as in real life, through discovery and experimentation. Once a new technology has been developed, the materials put into the creation can be varied to help the item serve multiple purposes, make it stronger, or last longer.

One of the greatest aspects of this idea is the human interaction. Everyone starts out on an even playing field, with no money or power; there’s no leveling system like traditional MMOs. Everyone is about equal, and they must develop themselves from the ground up. Some people may seek to become a power-hungry dictator, while others may devote their character’s life to science. People can live in small, hunting tribes, or settle down and create large communities with a real government and economy. There is no right or wrong way to play this game, as long as you play it the way you want.

Sounds too good to be true, right? Trust me, you’re not alone.

This game has received a lot of skepticism, as to be expected from a project this big and ambitious. There have been many doubtful souls, saying things like, “There’s no way you can make a world as big as the Earth!” “A game about real life would be boring!” “Why can’t I just kill everyone and take their stuff?” The Universe Project has answers for several of those questions on their website for the skeptics and doubters.

At this point, the Universe Project is far from finished. However, it is expected for the full game to be ready with in the next few months. While it’s still in production, you can sign up to the website and refer your friends or donate to gain early access or special perks in the game.

So, what’s your opinion on The Universe Project? Will it become the game to end all games? Or are the developers full of hot air? Leave a comment, tell me what you think!
