The Solar Foundation has done some incredible work describing the phenomenal growth of the Solar Industry and its impact on employment nationwide.
In late 2012, the Foundation created the National Solar Jobs Census 2012, which identified the total employment of 119,016 Americans in the solar industry. In an effort to better describe what exactly the jobs census data means on a state and national level, the Solar Foundation has developed a useful interactive map called the State Solar Jobs Map.
Some interesting statistics from the foundation:
* In 2012, 13,872 new solar workers were added to the solar industry employment total (119,016) nationwide. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the overall economy grew at a rate of 2.3 percent during the same period, signifying that 1 in 230 jobs created nationally over the last year were created in the solar industry.
* More Texans work in the solar industry than ranching.
* California has more solar workers than actors.
* The United States employs more people in the solar industry than coal mining.
